The Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority and Yemen Airways announced on 12th August 2024 the resumption of work at the aircraft maintenance center at Sanaa International Airport after ten years of cessation as a result of the aggression and the siege....
During the resumption ceremony, which was attended by the Deputy of the Ministry of Transport for the Air Transport Sector- Abdullah Al-Ansi, the Chairman of the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority- Yahya Al-Sayani, the Acting Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yemen Airways- Khalil Jahaf, and the Deputy Chairman of the Authority- Arif Al-Ashram, the aircraft maintenance center’s accreditation certificate was handed over in accordance with the requirements and standards approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization- ICAO.
Al-Ansi, Al-Sayani and Jahaf toured the center’s departments and technical workshops and listened to an explanation from the engineers about the maintenance work of the Yemen Airways 7O-AFC aircraft by national professional technical cadres.
The Deputy of the Ministry of Transport explained the importance of resuming work at the maintenance center and its contribution to reducing costly financial burdens, and a positive step on the right path to restoring its role in providing services at the regional level to multiple international companies.
He also stressed the Ministry of Transport's endeavor during the coming period to develop and modernize the various transport sectors, especially air transport, which contributes significantly to the development of the national economy and provides humanitarian and air navigational services.
Whereas the Chairman of the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority considered the resumption of work at the aircraft maintenance center of Yemen Airways an important step in the real construction and development in the field of civil aviation, professionally and technically.
He also stated that the aircraft maintenance center was closed for nearly ten years due to the aggression and siege on the nation in general and Sanaa International Airport in particular, which was subjected to systematic and deliberate targeting by the aggression to paralyze its navigational movement.
Al-Sayani stressed that the center includes professional cadres from different governorates of the Republic with long experience in the field of civil aviation.
In turn, the Acting Chairman of the Airlines Board of Directors stressed the keenness to restore the aircraft maintenance center at Sanaa Airport to its regional role that it was exercising before the aggression against the nation, pointing to the airport’s operational and technical readiness to operate flights to different destinations in accordance with the international requirements and conditions in force at global airports.
For his part, the Director General of Sanaa International Airport- Khaled Al-Shayef, said that the aircraft maintenance center was a regional center that maintains different local and international transport aircraft by pure Yemeni expertise.
He also indicated that since the first day of the aggression, the maintenance center was closed and aircraft maintenance work was transferred abroad, which caused great financial burdens.
The ceremony was attended by the Authority's Assistant Deputy Chairman for the Safety Sector- Dr. Abdul Hamid Abu Talib, the Directors of Air Transport- Dr. Mazen Ghanem, Constructions- Hadi Khairan, and Projects Director- Dr. Faraj Bathar, and a number of officials and specialists in the Ministry of Transport and Yenen Airways.
