Minister of Transport Reveals About First Flight From Sanaa Airport to Cairo

The Minister of Transport- Abdulwahab Yahya Al-Durra announced on 29th May 2022 the first civilian commercial flight from Sanaa to Cairo.

The Minister of Transport stated that the Office of the UN Envoy confirmed the conduct of the first civilian commercial flight from Sanaa to Cairo and back on the first of next June through the national carrier of the Yemeni Airways.

He also called on the United Nations to double the number of civilian commercial flights to save the lives of patients and alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people. He said: "The United Nations must double the number of commercial flights by one flight to Cairo per day."

He added: "Sana'a International Airport can receive all the flights of different types and sizes of aircraft, taking off and landing during the evening period after a stoppage for 6 years due to the airport being bombed by the aggression coalition for several times."

Minister Al-Durra also praised the Yemeni technical expertise that were able to rehabilitate the night lighting network system for the main runway during a record period to complete the airport’s readiness and receive the flights on a daily basis, day and night, around the clock, in accordance with the international conditions and requirements applicable at international airports
