Minister of Transport Discusses with Grandi Implications of Continued Closure of Sana'a Airport

Aden, the displacement and deportation of citizens from the northern Governorates, and the prevention of citizens from traveling through Aden airport, which exacerbated the humanitarian catastrophe of patients traveling for medical treatment and the stranded at the international airports. In the meeting, the Minister of Transport pointed out that the continued closure of Sana'a airport exacerbated the suffering of patient cases and lack of medicines and treatment of chronic diseases.

He also stressed the importance of opening Sana'a airport to alleviate the suffering of thousands of patients who need to travel for medical treatment abroad and the return of students and residents to Yemen. He called on the United Nations and the Security Council to expedite opening the airport to transport the citizens and patients who were prevented from traveling through the airports of the occupied territories.

The Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator in Yemen described the situation in Yemen as catastrophic, noting that the United Nations understands the situation and working to alleviate the suffering of Yemenis. "The opening of Sana'a International Airport has humanitarian implications to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people" she said, adding that one of the priorities of the United Nations efforts is to work in this path.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Mohammed Al-Sharif – Deputy Chairman of CAMA, Mr. Khaled Al-Shaif- Director General of Sana'a International Airport, Dr. Mazen Ghanem- Director General of Air Transport and Mr. Amin Juma'an- Director General of Airports Sector.
