A number of qualitative refresher training courses in the field of firefighting and rescue were concluded at Sana'a International Airport, organized by the airports' sector, represented by the General Administration of Firefighting and Rescue and the Institute of Civil Aviation and Meteorology, which lasted more than a month.

The courses aimed to provide 150 firefighter and rescue trainees at Sanaa, Taiz, and Hodeidah airports with advanced knowledge and skills in the field of firefighting and dealing with various aircraft accidents in a way that ensures the safety of lives and property in accordance with international standards applicable at the global airports and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

In the conclusion ceremony, the Minister of Transport- Abdul Wahab Al-Durra, stressed the operational, technical, professional and technological readiness of Sana’a International Airport to receive all the types of aircraft and civil flights around the clock in accordance with the international specifications, standards and requirements emanating from the ICAO.

He also praised the practical applications carried out by the trainees on how to deal with live fires and aircraft fires in the apron, which were applied to the Yemenia 320 aircraft parked at Sana'a Airport, considering it a clear message confirming to the world that Sana'a International Airport is ready to receive 20 aircraft per day.

The Minister-Al-Durra pointed to the keenness and interest of the Revolutionary Leadership and the Supreme Political Council in the Yemeni airports and seaports in general, without distinction, and said: "We are striving with every effort to operate the rest of the airports, including the Hodeidah and Taiz international airports."

He also appreciated the efforts of the leadership of the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority and its interest in training as it is an international requirement for airports' readiness.

For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of CAMA- Dr. Mohammad Abdulkader, in the presence of the Authority’s Deputy Chairman-Raed Jabal, and the two Assistant Deputy Chairman for the Airports' Sector- Yahya Al-Kohlani, and Dr. Abdel Hamid Abu Talib- for Aviation Security and Safety Sector, explained that firefighting and rescue are the most important elements of civil aviation safety, stressing that Sana’a Airport is ready and operating in accordance with international standards

In the meantime,  the Director General of Sanaa International Airport- Khaled Al-Shayef indicated that executing the courses in this exceptional circumstance is an achievement that enhances the airport’s readiness and its keeping up with the international procedures, praising the support of the Ministry of Transport and the authority’s leadership of the airport.

For his part, the Director General of the Institute of Civil Aviation and Meteorology-  Dr. Naji Al-Sohmi, pointed out that the courses are a source of support for the trainees to develop their experience and skills in the field of firefighting and rescue.

The conclusion ceremony included practical training carried out by the trainees to extinguish a simulated fire carried out on a Yemenia Airbus Type 320 aircraft at Sana’a International Airport apron.
